29000 Lbs Of Food For Florida

Carpet One Floor & Home in Sebring, FL is feeding the hungry by working with the Second Harvest Food Bank. It all started in 2010 when Carpet One Floor & Home store owner Celeste Carr helped her son’s preschool class at Starchild Academy of Winter Garden in collecting food. That year, with Carpet One’s help, they collected 15,000 pounds of food.

The next year, Carpet One Floor & Home became a corporate sponsor and again joined forces with Starchild Academy as well as other parents and businesses. Together, they raised 29,000 pounds of non-perishable food. Carpet One Floor & Home encouraged donations by being a drop-off location and motivating their employees

When all was said and done, the group filled 5 GMC 2500 pick-up trucks, the back of the school bus, a van and one of the Carpet One installer’s large vans to the top - inside the cabs and the truck beds from front to back and top to bottom! The children went on the bus and the group convoy delivered the food to the Local WESH Channel 2 TV station where the Second Harvest Truck waited. Live news feeds were being broadcast while the children and parents, school employees, and Carpet One staff unloaded the food into a semi-truck headed off to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

It was a wonderful learning experience for the children and more importantly adults who participated. Carpet One Floor & Home in Sebring, FL has made it their corporate vow to do more; and have set a goal of 35,000 lbs for next year.
