Twin Cities Takes A Step Forward For The Fallen

Earlier this summer, our own Keri Hargbol, Regional Membership Consultant for our North Central region, took to the streets as part of the inaugural Twin Cities Stephen Siller Tunnels to Towers Foundation’s 5K.

Joining forces with members from throughout Minnesota, along with reps from Wisconsin, the Carpet One team yielded over $5,150 for the Foundation and was one of the day’s top fund raisers. Despite the very warm temperature that day, the volunteers, walkers, and runners truly came together to make some great things happen.

Among the crowd was a very special guest: Johnathon Mullen, a U.S. Army veteran who will soon receive a customized Smart Home of his very own. Johnathon, who lost both legs and injured his right arm and hand in the line of duty in June 2011, wowed the crowd by singing the National Anthem, then participating in the walk.  A talented drummer and singer, John is a member of the MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band and has previously performed with Pink Floyd legend Roger Waters!

Keri said the Twin Cities event is expected to become an annual tradition, following an impressive debut. “It was great to see everyone come together for such a great cause,” she added. ‘I know this group is already excited and thinking of ways to make this a continued success.”

The Stephen Siller Tunnels to Towers Foundation’s Building for America’s Bravest program designs and builds customized, mortgage-free Smart Homes for veterans with catastrophic injuries. Addressing each hero’s unique needs, these Smart Homes are fully equipped with features such as automated doors and lighting, accessible showers, and much, much more.
